Download

Download the binary releases from the GeoIRC page on BerliOS.

The download page is separated into four sections: GeoIRC Binaries; GeoIRC Installers; Required third-party libraries; Optional third-party libraries.

For ease of installation, download the installer which is appropriate for your platform. The installers contain all GeoIRC material, including the core files and both the required and optional third-party Java libraries.

If you download a binary package instead, then be sure to also get the required third-party libraries (jar files). Otherwise, GeoIRC will not run.

For upgrading, it is sufficient to download the binary package, and overwrite the jars. If there are no files released in the library sections for a given version, then you don't need to download the library jars again.

You'll probably want to pick up a theme or two, as well.

Please note that GeoIRC requires Java 1.4 or better to run. You may use either the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or the Software Development Kit (SDK). If you have neither, download the JRE, as it is much smaller. The java.exe program should be in your path.

Only the Sun JDK is officially supported! GeoIRC will run with others (such as IBM's JDK, and the Blackdown JDK), but be aware that the Blackdown JDK is known to give display problems in GeoIRC.

The sources can be downloaded via anonymous CVS from SourceForge.

The development release can be had by:

  1. installing the stable first
  2. overwriting the settings.xml file with this one from CVS
  3. getting geoirc-0.3.6-jars.tar.gz (3.2 MB) and unpacking its contents into the jar directory (overwriting your old jars)
  4. adjusting the startup script (geoirc in Linux, geoirc.bat in Windows) so that it references all the (new) jars in the jar directory
